Mayor of Marseille, Jean- Claude Gaudin expressed his support (Ed. The city provides the largest grant with the amount of 1, 3 million euro), reminding the success of the Capital of Culture 2013 and the success of the Festival de Marseille’s last edition with its excellent fill rate (91%).

The festival focuses on Diversity and other various committed topics: the Apartheid in South Africa is the main theme of the show Ubu and the Truth Commission; as well as the condition of African-Americans in the United States with Pavement held by Kyle Abraham, the 2013 winner of the MacArthur prize. Moreover, for the first time in France, the festival will host a Palestinian company that will perform the show Badke.

Disability is one of the major concerns in the festival, and accessibility for the disabled is a workhorse. In addition to programs in Braille and readable by all, the public can attend an amazing show: Attention Fragile, performed by the dance company Danse en l’R, where physical disability becomes « overcapacity » for the dancers. The presence of the Ballet National de Marseille will delight the local audience with a unique creation that will produce a leitmotif of « primitive energy tornado ».
